World Communion Sunday

World Communion Sunday

On October 3rd, we observe World Communion Sunday alongside Christians around the globe, seeking a connectedness with the body of Christ that transcends nations, political divisions, and denominational lines.  As a part of World Communion Sunday, United Methodists collect an offering that supports scholarships for graduate students in ministry areas that model diversity, promote societal transformation, and embody our Social Principles and our call to follow Christ.  50% of this offering supports the Ethnic Scholarship Program and the Ethnic In-Service Training Program through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, and the other 50% supports the World Communion Scholarship Leadership Development Program through the General Board of Global Ministries, awarding more than $11 million to over 500 students since 2002.  We at First Church have an opportunity to give generously on World Communion Sunday, knowing that our belief in racial justice and societal transformation does not end in Seattle; our impact will be felt around the globe through the diversity of student-leaders we support.
