Volunteers needed for Shared Breakfast

Shared Breakfast, the church’s long-running food ministry program for those in need of a hot, nutritious meal on Sunday mornings, is in need of additional volunteers to serve as Lead Cooks, Assistant Cooks, Dishwashers, Shoppers and Musicians (please see the list of responsibilities for each of these roles below).

Thanks for your support of this important ministry!

  • Lead Cook – Shift is 6:30am to 9:15am on Sunday mornings (once a month)
    • Direct two Assistant Cooks in preparing breakfast (preparing quick-cook oatmeal, heating pre-cooked sausages and biscuits). Cook scrambled eggs on the kitchen griddle. Direct the cleaning of the kitchen during the cooking process and at the end of the shift. Ensure safe food handling practices are followed (must have a King County food worker permit – cost is $10 to be reimbursed by Shared Breakfast) 
  • Assistant Cook – Shift is 6:30am to 9:15am on Sunday mornings (once a month)
    • Assist the Lead Cook in heating pre-cooked sausages and biscuits, and preparing quick-cook oatmeal. Fill to-go meal containers with scrambled eggs, sausages and biscuits. Clean the kitchen as you work and at the end of the shift with other volunteers at the direction of the Lead Cook
  • Dishwasher – Shift is 8:30am to 9:45am on Sunday mornings (once a month)
    • Wash and sanitize all dishes, pots and pans used in the preparation of Shared Breakfast. Empty the dishwashing sinks and dishwashing machine at the end of the shift and sanitize all surfaces in the dishwashing area
  • Shopper – This role takes about 90 minutes each time and can be done any day of the week from Monday through Saturday (once a month)
    • This requires use of your personal vehicle (it is best if you have a station wagon or SUV) and use of your own credit card. Requires the ability to lift boxes of food weighing up to 20 lbsUse shopping list prepared by the Shared Breakfast ManagerShop at the closest US Chef Store to your home. Purchase all items on the shopping list using your personal credit card. Deliver the items to the church and store them in their appropriate location. Submit reimbursement form and a photo of the US Chef Store receipt via email to the church’s business manager for reimbursement
  • Musician – This roles is from 7:30am to 9am on Sunday mornings  (once  a month)
    • Play instrumental music (piano, guitar, etc., ) during Shared Breakfast. This music should be of a type that creates a relaxed, calm environment for the Shared Breakfast guests and volunteers.
