By 2030, achieve 100% Renewable Energy ✢ Zero-Emissions Vehicles ✣ Regenerative Agriculture to reach 75% overall reduction in climate pollution/emissions by 2050.
The Earth Bill, officially called The Earth Act to Stop Climate Pollution, is a visionary, science-based bill that would mandate an end to climate pollution at the source–the industry level–on the timeline required to save ourselves and the future.
The Earth Bill would require utility companies and publicly-traded agriculture corporations to shift to clean and healthy inputs to make our electricity (with solar, wind, geo-thermal, tidal, and wave) and our food (with farming practices such as no-till, cover crops, and no chemical fertilizers and pesticides).
By simply fixing how our electricity, cars, and food are made, we can achieve 50% of our pollution solution–on top of the 25% already in motion–for a total of 75% by 2050. These actions would meet and exceed the USA commitments under the Paris Climate Accords.
Introduced in the 118th Congress by Representative Adriano Espaillat (New York, 13th District), the Earth Bill is gaining congressional co-sponsors, endorsing organizations, and individual advocates. First Church has already joined many other faith groups as an organizational endorser.
You can also take the Earth Bill Pledge, and help work to promote its passage. Join the Climate Justice Working Group and the Church & Society Committee at First Church in:
- Sharing information about the Earth Bill with your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers; and
- Reaching out to your Congressional Representative (find your Representative here) about their co-sponsorship or support.
It may seem like a long shot, but it’s a Moon Shot for the Earth, and would propel the radical transformation required to avert climate destruction.
