(Update Shared in worship on May 15th, 2022)
We are writing with an update on the status of Shared Breakfast. Our tenure as co-chairs of the Urban Outreach Committee, which is responsible for organizing Shared Breakfast, comes to end on June 30th. Sue Porter and I, along with the Nominations Committee at First United Methodist Church, have been working diligently for the past 6 months to identify new co-chairs.
As of today, the future of Shared Breakfast beyond June 30th is in doubt as we have not been able to identify new co-chairs.
We have a remarkable group of volunteers, close to 40 who are active in the program, a great volunteer coordinator in Bruce Hall who ensures that we have sufficient volunteers every Sunday and for weekday jobs such as food shopping, as well as sufficient funding for another year of Shared Breakfast. We have one person who has agreed to serve as a co-chair of the Urban Outreach Committee.
However, this committee and Shared Breakfast, as it currently operates, require co-chairs to organize the weekly operation.
We spoke in front of the church congregation on Sunday, May 15th about this situation and are writing to you today to keep you up-to-date. Shared Breakfast won’t continue without new leadership. We welcome your questions, suggestions, and prayers. We will provide another update at the end of this month regarding the status of the search for new leadership and whether we will proceed with scheduling volunteers for Q3.
Please contact Sue Porter or me or Pastor Jeremy if you would like to discuss this further.
