The Climate Justice Working Group (CJWG) and the Stewardship Committee are inviting members of the First Church community to make “Earth Pledges” in conjunction with their 2023 giving pledges.
What Are Earth Pledges?
- Earth Pledges are personal and/or household commitments to take steps to help stem the climate crisis or otherwise care for creation.
- Pledges are crafted by, and can be anything that is meaningful to those pledging. Possibilities range from changes in behavior to public action and advocacy.
- You are invited to make an Earth Pledge in addition to your financial pledge as part of this fall’s Stewardship Campaign.
How This Will Work
- Earth pledge cards parallel those for Giving pledges. If you find that you need ideas for your Earth Pledge, we’ve included a list for you to browse.
- Earth pledges will be submitted along with giving pledges in worship or online on or by November 6, 2022.
- The CWJG will collect Earth Pledges and, during 2023, check in with those who pledge for conversations about how they are doing in fulfilling their pledges..
- Throughout 2023, quarterly Earth Pledge testimonies, in which members will share their experience with fulfilling their pledges, will be included in the Call to Discipleship.
