30 colorful drawstring backpacks lined up on the Narthex counter on Sunday 12/12/2022 after the service. They were filled with soap, hats/gloves, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bandages, hand sanitizer, and gift cards.
Thanks to the generous donation from the congregation and a group of volunteers who helped assemble the kits, we were able to create and donate 30 “Support Kits” to Neighborhood House. These kits will benefit the youth clients who have left traditional classrooms and are working hard toward their educational as well as career goals.
This is the second year that First Church created and donated kits for the Neighborhood House clients. Their Director of Development and Communications, Arturo Martinez-Guijosa, shared with us how Neighborhood House was looking for a group to organize such a drive for 2 years and that the First Church was the first organization to respond!
