Dear First Church,
One of my favorite moments from Open Mic Night last night (and there were many amazing moments!) was when we heard a personal story from a First Church member. Storytelling isn’t as easy as we might think, but when done well, a good story can transport you to another place in time, help you to see things from a new perspective, and give you resources you may not even have known you needed. Some of us regularly delight in stories as readers of fiction, but others may not realize how much we are relying on stories to tell us what’s true about ourselves and the world.
One of the major gifts of the Christian faith is the story of salvation, a story that tells us who God is, who we are, how we’re called to live in the world, and how God continues to act in and through us. This week in worship, as we finish our What We Need Is Here series, we’ll focus on this story and why it’s so important for us, what it gives us, and what we might gain from learning it well and sharing it broadly, using scripture texts from Ephesians and Revelation.
As the end of June draws closer, it’s becoming more and more real that the interim period for Pastor Kathy and me is quickly drawing to a close! It has been such a gift to serve at First Church as pastors for this short time, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the hospitality you’ve shown. As we wrap up this time, please know how much we’ve appreciated being part of this journey with you, and how excited we are for First Church’s future under Pastor DJ’s leadership!
With you on the journey,
Pastor Elizabeth
