Lent Opportunities 2026

Printed Lenten Devotionals are available for your use throughout Lent. You can find them in the Narthex next to the nametag table. We ask that you take just one per household please.

Kids will have an opportunity to participate in the practice of almsgiving this Lent with the United Methodist’s Church’s “Coins for Lent” activity. During Lent, we are reminded to examine our lifestyles and ask, “What can we do for others?” Part of faith formation at any age is compassion and serving our neighbors. Use the attached calendar to collect coins in a jar for each day of Lent. We’ll also have some printouts available in the Narthex. We’ll then collect everyone’s coins together and donate it to an organization after Easter, decided on by the participants. 2026 Coins for Lent Calendar

First Church will be joining Queen Anne United Methodist Church for Maundy Thursday at their building this year on April 2nd at 6:30 pm. This will be a potluck Soup and Bread dinner followed by a Maundy Thursday service. We have the opportunity to bring soups and bread and encourage everyone who is able to join one of our sister congregations.

Please use the link in the registration form to sign up for a dish to bring.

Our Good Friday service this year will feature Song of the Shadows, a deeply moving cantata weaving together song, scripture, and candlelight as we contemplate Christ’s journey to the cross via our own descent into darkness. The First Church Sanctuary Choir will be joined by friends from Trinity and Queen Anne UMC as we present this musical moment of remembrance. “Come to the shadows, the flickering candle; silence yourself in the still of this place. Here in this moment, as silence surrounds you, open your heart to the music of grace.

Table Turning on Holy Saturday, April 4th

First Church will be joining Valley & Mountain UMC for a Table Turning event on Holy Saturday, April 4th, at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma at 4 – 6 pm. Table Turning is a social justice movement grounded in the radical tradition of Jesus, who turned tables to disrupt Empire’s oppression of people. We are called as people of faith & conscious to Unite in one voice to Free Them All.

Join in a beautiful celebration of Resurrection next Sunday with friends from Trinity UMC! Bishop Cedrick Bridgeforth will be our special guest preacher for the day. Invite a friend or neighbor to join you for worship!
