Meaningful Movies | “A Place at the Table”

Meaningful Movies at First Church Seattle is co-sponsoring an event presented by the Meaningful Movies High School Group—an exclusive, free online screening of the thought-provoking documentary “A Place at the Table” by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at 4:00 pm PST for the online film and program. Also co-sponsored by Meaningful Movies Tacoma/Gig Harbor, “A Place at the Table” isn’t just a film; it’s a powerful call to action.

The film delves into the lives of individuals and families struggling with food insecurity, shedding light on the harsh reality that millions face despite living in one of the wealthiest nations. Through personal stories, expert interviews, and compelling statistics, the documentary examines the root causes of hunger, including poverty, inadequate access to nutritious food, and systemic issues within the food industry and government policies. “A Place at the Table” aims to raise awareness about the urgent need for change in addressing hunger and advocating for policies that ensure everyone has access to affordable and nutritious food.

There will be a discussion following the film with Sandi Pruitt, Ph.D., MPH. Dr. Sandi Pruitt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population and Data Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She conducts population-based research related to health disparities and equity, neighborhoods and health, social determinants of health including food insecurity, the transformative power of food assistance, and cancer epidemiology. The goal of her research program is to generate evidence that can be used to inform policies and programs in order to improve wellbeing, especially for under-served and disadvantaged populations and places.
