Over the past year, many of us were reminded, or become more deeply aware, of the painful social injustices that persist in our society. If we are to move forward from this place, where do we start?
One starting place we can look to is the incredible acts of forgiveness on the part of people who were oppressed – suffering countless atrocities and injustices – during Apartheid in South Africa. You might wonder, “How is this kind of forgiveness possible?” In this class, we will examine the premise that true forgiveness is possible, when we start with the belief that in each of us there is an innate ability to create joy amidst suffering, to find hope in the most hopeless of situations, and to heal relationship in need of healing. This is the focus of our Monday night classes during Lent.
We will be studying The Book of Forgiving: The Fourfold Path to Healing Ourselves and Our World by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter Mpho Tutu. Classes will be led by different members of our church, including Emily Wright, Ruby Mohamed, Beth Snyder, Tom Carlson, Doug Donohue, and Rev. Yvonne Agduyeng.
