Brought to you by the Climate Justice Working Group at First Church.

Seattle is known as the Emerald City—but why are we rapidly losing the trees that help protect us from climate change? Since Seattle’s new tree ordinance took effect, more than 6,000 trees have already been removed, with many more expected to follow. Join Tree Action Seattle to learn why mature trees are essential for cooling neighborhoods, protecting the Puget Sound watershed, and helping Seattle adapt to climate change—and why they are disappearing so quickly.
We’ll explore how recent policy decisions have weakened tree protections and what can be done to reverse the trend.Meet experts and community advocates, learn how urban forest policy shapes Seattle’s future, and discover how you can help protect and restore our urban forest.

Tree Action Seattle is a grassroots organization of volunteers dedicated to protecting and growing the city’s urban forest. Our team brings together community advocates and experts committed to science- and nature-based solutions that make Seattle a healthier, more livable city.

Our speaker, Sandy Shettler, co-founded Tree Action Seattle in 2023. A former healthcare social worker (MSW), she works to protect and grow Seattle’s urban forest and promote healthier, more resilient communities.
