Lots and lots of activity around the building site these weeks. If you haven't been by, you'll be surprised at the amount of work underway.
On the sanctuary side, the exterior framing is about 70% complete and within the next week we'll start to see the wallboard begin to cover the exterior walls. The wood roof framework will likely be complete by the time you read this and the wood decking and temporary roof covering will be in place. Inside, the overhead mechanical work (heating, cooling, plumbing, fire sprinklers) is being installed. Wall lines have been marked on the floor and, as mechanical progress allows, the 1st floor interior framing will be completed. We'll also see metal stairs going in this week on the westerly and northerly portions of the project. The planter areas will be framed this week and poured within a few days.
At the garage we have 1.5 of the 4 parking levels in place, with another ½ floor to be poured this week. Supports for the 1.5 level have now been removed, allowing us access (as soon as the ceiling is cured) to the Urban Outreach site. As additional garage levels are completed each week we'll see the alleyway backfilled and then paved, which will remove the last large area of exposed dirt onsite.
The Building Advisory Board (BAB) has been busy finalizing financing on the project, which entails negotiating contracts with the city and county and completing paperwork requests from our lender, the United Methodist Development Fund. BAB has also been looking closely at pedestrian access to the building to ensure ease of entry and exit, particularly from the garage. Over the upcoming weeks BAB's Art subcommittee will review designs for the exterior cross and door pulls and will continue to investigate timing of the design phase of the stained glass windows. We'll also be convening our Organ Committee to start preliminary investigation of an organ for the space.
Thanks to all who are helping make this new building happen!
