Staffing Changes at First Church Reflect Drive Toward Budget Sustainability
Our Administrative Council, Committee on Staff Parish Relations (COSPAR) and Finance Committee have been hard at work reviewing the budget and adjusting personnel in order to provide the best service to our congregation while continuing our work toward the goal of a balanced and sustainable budget. Here's an overview of staffing changes that have recently been implemented: Replacement of Associate Pastor Delayed -- At its last meeting our Administrative Council learned that garage expenses may exceed the amount budgeted for 2010 by $45-60,000 due to unforeseen property taxes. As a result, COSPAR has chosen to delay its plan to replace the Rev. Elizabeth Ingram Schindler until the church's property tax liability is known. If funds allow later this year, Rev. Elizabeth would be replaced with a part-time associate pastor and part-time volunteer coordinator. COSPAR feels this combination is the optimal match for our congregation's clergy staffing needs.
- Eric Liljegren Hired as Church Business Administrator -- Following the announcement of John Breen's retirement COSPAR began work to find his replacement. At its last meeting the committee approved the hiring of Eric Liljegren to fill his position at 20 hours per week. Eric will begin work on June 1 and train alongside John for the following 30 days.
- Nancy Eckert Assumes Role of Full-time Office Coordinator -- We are thankful to Seantaila Spears who worked part-time in our office over the last several months. COSPAR determined several weeks ago that the congregation would best be served by a full-time staffer in the church office, so Seantaila's 1/2 time position and Nancy's 1/2 time position were combined into the new Office Coordinator role.
- Part-Time Kitchen Coordinator to be Hired -- COSPAR will soon post a 4 hour per week position that will allow us to the congregation to use our kitchen and Fellowship Hall for church meals on a regular basis.
