| Take the Survey: Final Name for Our Shelter Program |
Solidarity House. Strengths: 'Solidarity" communicates the spirit/context in which the ministry of the shelter would take place. It is aligned with the very ethos of First Church as a place where people can find community, help in times of need, and strength to transform their lives. This name is also a spiritually nuanced title; while we understand solidarity as part of Christian life, the idea of "solidarity" transcends many religious, ethnic and socio-economic groups. Blaine House. Strengths: "Blaine" is aligned with the very history of First Church and Seattle with Rev. David and Catharine Blaine as founders of both our congregation and the wider community. "Blaine" is also distinctively United Methodist. At present, beyond our building at 2nd and Denny there is no outward representation of the United Methodist Church in the human services community. The feedback process will be closed on July 29th and the results will be presented on August 2nd in worship and subsequent publications. |
