Submit a Name for Our 24-Hour Enhanced Shelter Program

We asked and you responded: over 30 names were submitted by congregation members for our new shelter program! In a recent meeting, the Urban Outreach Committee reviewed all of the names submitted. After much discussion the committee settled on two name candidates to present to the congregation for feedback. Please let us know what you think of the two final candidates via the online survey.

The two potential names:

Solidarity House. Strengths: 'Solidarity" communicates the spirit/context in which the ministry of the shelter would take place. It is aligned with the very ethos of First Church as a place where people can find community, help in times of need, and strength to transform their lives. This name is also a spiritually nuanced title; while we understand solidarity as part of Christian life, the idea of "solidarity" transcends many religious, ethnic and socio-economic groups.

Blaine House. Strengths: "Blaine" is aligned with the very history of First Church and Seattle with Rev. David and Catharine Blaine as founders of both our congregation and the wider community. "Blaine" is also distinctively United Methodist. At present, beyond our building at 2nd and Denny there is no outward representation of the United Methodist Church in the human services community.
You can give input until July 19th through the online survey or on the Sunday Attendance Registry. The feedback process will be closed on July 29th and the results will be presented on August 2nd in worship and subsequent publications.
