Mission Team Bake Sale – Sunday, March 2
Help support our upcoming mission trip to Guatemala! On Sunday, March 2 the mission team will host a bake sale in the church narthex from 9:30-10:30 AM. Plan to pick up some homemade treats made by mission team members and learn more about the Salud y Paz mission.
What is Salud y Paz?
“Salud y Paz” translates to mean “Health and Peace.” As a mission program of the United Methodist Church it partners with congregations in the U.S. and also with the indigenous Methodist church of Guatemala. Salud y Paz volunteers provide medical and dental services to impoverished people of Guatemala, as well as preschool and feeding programs for indigent families. As a part of the UMC, the project is a designated Advance Special of the General Board of Global Ministries.
In 2010 the Church Council at First Church voted to allocate 10% of the funds from our Capital Campaign to a suitable mission project somewhere in the world. The goal has been to do more with our campaign than simply repay our mortgage and to make an impact somewhere in the world for people in genuine need. Our Capital Campaign Committee chose the “Salud y Paz” mission project near Antigua, Guatemala.
First Church Mission Team
In the summer of 2014, First Church will send a Volunteer in Mission group to Salud y Paz to help build a health clinic. We appreciate your support!
