Journey together through Holy Week.
Palm Sunday | Sunday, March 24, 8:30 am and 10:30 am
The congregation is invited to a self-guided, meditative Walk Into Holy Week from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Palm Sunday. First Church kids and teachers are preparing several rooms for you to experience Holy Week in a special way. Come see where Jesus cleared the Temple, walk through the Garden of Gethsemane, sit in the upper room with the disciples, imagine Jesus standing before Pilate, make a cross at Golgatha, and sit quietly in the tomb.
All children are invited to participate in the Palm Sunday processional. Meet outside the sanctuary doors at 10:25 am.
Welcome Guest Speaker Pat Simpson, who will share a Palm Sunday message.
Rev. Pat Simpson came into our orbit when she served as pastor of Church of Mary Magdalene from 1998 to 2006, and held her charge conference membership at First Church. She worked to build a closer relationship between the two congregations, moving the COMM offices here, and eventually working with First Church to launch the Mary’s Place weekday program in 2000. First Church volunteers from that era have continued the connection through moves and program changes. She now relates to First Church as Seattle District Superintendent.
Maundy Thursday | Thursday, March 28, 7 pm
The Sanctuary Choir will provide a special communion-themed anthem and First Inspirations Children’s Choir will provide special music.
Good Friday | Friday, March 29, 7 pm
Members of Kirkland Choral Society and a terrific chamber orchestra will present J. S. Bach’s beautiful cantata #150, “Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich.” Last year, on Good Friday, the group presented Bach cantata #106. Our Music Director, Glenn Gregg, would like to create a tradition of presenting Bach’s music on Good Friday. Come and hear some of the most beautiful church music ever created. This year’s cantata is based on Psalm 25. Here is a sampling of the text: “To Thee, O Lord, I lift up my soul, O my God, in thee I trust. Let me not be put to shame, let not my enemies exult over me. Lead me in thy truth and teach me, for thou art the God of my salvation, for thee I wait all the day long.”
